A young wife's life crisis results in an influx of vivid dreams. The author feels compelled to record them and a remarkable spiritual awakening develops unrealized. Forty years later an odd remark in an e-mail from the UK sets the wheels in motion for this unusual story to become public.
Journey of Dreams 40 Years of Dream Keeping edition by Joan Bridgeman Robert Health Fitness Dieting eBooks
Since dreaming is a common occurrence for us all, one would think we would have discovered a purpose for dreaming by now. Sadly, no consensus exists to answer the question of "why" humans dream. Theories abound insinuating that dreams are necessary for our development and others maintain that dreams are merely the underpinnings of the dreamer's subconscious.Into this fray comes Joan Bridgeman, who has written a captivating treatise covering forty years of her dream experiences. From the outset, it is impressive to note the tenacity required to type and catalog four decades worth of dreams. Bridgeman gives the reader a very personal glimpse of her life and the ardor which surrounds single parenting, remarriage, and the tumultuous waters of career change. Perhaps the only real anchor for her during these years was the reality demonstrated by her dreams.
Bridgeman came to trust that her life is guided by spiritual beings who explain life's nuances in the dreamscape. Certain dreams are meant to foretell doom, unexpected change, or even unanticipated light at the end of the tunnel. These guides are in place to ensure the dreamer does not deviate from the master plan determined for her life. Such revelation encouraged the author to trust her instincts which had been corroborated by various disclosures in her dreams.
Woven into this biological dissertation is an exposure to various paranormal concepts; such as, astral travel and OBE's (out of body experiences). Throughout history, various cultures have endorsed the idea that a separate "astral body" disconnects from the physical body during sleep and is free to travel along the astral plane. Whether or not the person who reads this book agrees with the mystical content portrayed - the experiences described are quite interesting. This well-written, rather unusual book is commended to the open-minded reader.
Journey of Dreams presents a unique understanding of how life can change when one learns to trust one's dreams. As an accomplished thespian, musician, and teacher, Bridgeman's life proves the lyrics made famous by Carly Simon: "It's your heart and soul's desire; It's the stuff that dreams are made of..."

Journey of Dreams 40 Years of Dream Keeping edition by Joan Bridgeman Robert Health Fitness Dieting eBooks Reviews
After finishing Ms. Bridgeman's "Journey of Dream's," I took a deep breath and wondered what I could write about it.
First of all, it is extremely well written. Her writing style is exemplary which made it easy to read. However the length of the book was far longer than it needed to be. I found myself drifting off into other thoughts which I don't like to do when reading.
Basically I found that it was an auto biography done with dreams and it was clever the way she had the dreams in bold. There were times that I had to disagree with her metaphysical considerations, but that is what makes the world go `round. In my estimation, though the book was a worthwhile effort, when she is capable in defining the components of the dreams herself, why should she find it necessary toward the end to have a third parties verification. She never does say whether the other person was right or wrong.
For a first book it's a good beginning
Ms Bridgeman made detailed notes of forty years of her dreams and was persuaded to share them. This book is the result with its interplay of mysterious dream sequences and the frankly told events of her life and the help and guidance she derived from the inhabitants of her dream world. The narrative style portrays an individual who is by no means an unwordly mystic but is practical and determined, which adds authenticity to this strange narrative. We learn of a parallel world of guides and helpers and out of body journeys and veiled knowledge of events which are later clarified. This journey is well worth the effort, opens the mind and may encourage the reader to keep a pad and pencil alongside the bed at night.
In this day and age there are a sundry of "New Age" books covering every aspect of metaphysical thought. How does one choose which ones would benefit the reader most? Journey of Dreams, 40 years of Dream Keeping by Joan Bridgeman is a diligent, comprehensive look at one who has recorded her dreams and thoughts on them for over four decades. The brunt of the book are those dreams of the awakening of her dream life and how they applied to her waking moments through the years. There is a shorter section on a way to remember and record one's dreams, another separately on those suggestive of what she believes could be reincarnational memories, a fascinating look at what she calls "odd dreams" which may be off-putting for those who are more 'down-to-earth', or less inclined toward anomalous phenomena. Another of possible prophetic dreams of the future, which as she herself says are only fragmentary dreams of suggested realities to come, as most of these are filled with upheaval and destruction. This is not to say she does not believe in their reality, because she, like many of us, see a possible future scenario filled with the bleakness of destruction, both man-made and natural.
This book is an honest commentary on marriage, illnesses, the raising of children, near suicide and the passing of loved ones. She tells how the book came to be, the Guidance that has been with her every step of her journey, her astral wanderings, her missteps and the inspirational beings she has met to show her the way.
On the positive, the book is extremely well written and edited, the dreams in bold and the fonts easy on the eyes. The cover and the few illustrations are perhaps too simple and can give the impression the book has not the depth it has. At most times I felt the book was on the mark, yet there is room for more to be said which, of course, leaves it open to sequels which may clarify and open up new avenues of exploration. There is repetition in some of the dreams, sometimes in different guises. But as her Guided writing told her (which is akin to 'automatic writing') the purpose here was to bring home a point, which may have been important or lost. A wise move.
This book could not have been an easy task to write, especially when touching on personal details that many would have shirked from. One of the reasons that makes it so believable is that the author creates honesty in her day-to-day existence, however mundane the experience. "Journeys" is no flowery attempt to make life more interesting than it seems; it is in her dreams that the true value resides showing sometimes straight forward, more often by analogy valuable life lessons . All of us can learn from Joan's book, and that she kept these dreams for future use in a book is very much to her credit to her and/or her guidance.
Would I recommend this book to others? I would to those with an open metaphysically-oriented mind, those willing to see what can be offered by paying close attention to the symbolism of one's dream existence. MDJ
